About Taren
I am a certified classroom teacher with a Master's Degree in Education. With over 10 years of experience and a private tutor specializing in reading and writing for students of all ages I am confident in helping any learner. I use research-based methods like UFLI phonics, leveled texts, and a classroom-tested writing curriculum to help learners build confidence, master skills, and succeed academically. My teaching approach is structured, research-based, and highly personalized. I use UFLI (University of Florida Literacy Institute) phonics for foundational reading skills, along with leveled reading books from Flyleaf Publishing Online to build fluency, comprehension, and confidence. For writing, I use my own classroom-tested writing curriculum, which has been successfully used in real classrooms and private tutoring settings. Reading and writing are always taught together, because strong readers become strong writers.
Each lesson is designed around the student’s individual goals—whether they are learning to decode, improving comprehension, developing paragraph structure, or writing polished academic essays. I combine clear instruction, guided practice, and meaningful reading and writing activities so students can immediately apply what they learn.
A typical lesson includes a balance of phonics or reading skills, guided reading with leveled texts, and writing instruction and practice. Younger or developing readers may focus on decoding, fluency, and comprehension, while older students work on literary analysis, grammar, organization, and essay writing. Every lesson integrates both reading and writing so skills grow together.
What sets me apart is my ability to meet students where they are and help them move forward with confidence. I bring experience not only as a classroom teacher, but also as a private tutor for learners of all ages, from early readers to college-level writers. I specialize in identifying skill gaps, building strong foundations, and creating a supportive learning environment that motivates students to succeed.
My lessons are designed for elementary, middle school, high school, and college students, including those who need reading intervention, writing support, homework help, or academic coaching. I also specialize in working with English Language Learners.
