About Florence
My name is Florence Raworth and I am a third-year student at Balliol College, University of Oxford, studying English and Italian. This year I am on my year abroad in Bologna and will return to Oxford in October for my final year, in which I am predicted to achieve a first.
I have a strong passion for literature, particularly the Romantics, American poetry, and Italian literature such as Dante. Having struggled with maths growing up (and Italian at the start of university) I understand how important the right tutor can be in building confidence and helping students believe in their abilities.
Coming from a school where only two students went on to Oxford, I am also passionate about encouraging students who may not see Oxbridge as an option to challenge themselves and aim for something they may not have thought of before, just as my teachers encouraged me.
I am happy to offer a free introductory meeting so we can get to know each other and discuss aims and goals for the lessons.

GCSE's = all A + A*'s
A-levels = English literature (A*), Classical Civ (A*), Philosophy and ethics (A*) - full marks in Greek religion, imperial image and English literature paper 1.
Oxford = predicted 1st (working steadily at 75's)
Extra curriculars include: feature writer of Industry Creative magazine, costume designer for OUDS (Oxford Drama Society), poetry submissions to Oxford Poetry Soc., netball and voluntary Italian conversation classes.

My teaching approach is tailored to each student’s age, level, and goals. In the first lesson, I provide a detailed assessment of every student which allows me to put together a detailed study plan. I focus on building confidence alongside academic skills, using structured guidance for exams and applications while keeping lessons engaging and interactive for younger learners. For English literature, this often includes close reading, essay planning, and targeted feedback, while English language work focuses on grammar, reading, and speaking through practical exercises. I also offer structured support for Oxbridge preparation, including interview practice, personal statement preparation, and application guidance (in only two years, I already have 3 students who have been accepted to Oxford under my guidance).
I have over two years of professional tutoring experience with Hilltop Academy in Oxford, teaching students aged 6–18. I specialise in 11+ and 13+ English preparation and school entrance exams, while also teaching a wide range of students - from KS1 international learners developing basic English skills to GCSE and A-level students studying English Literature, as well as those preparing for Oxbridge applications. I can also offer tutoring in A-level Philosophy and Classical Civilisation if desired, as well as LAMDA prep.
Lessons are typically one hour long. For GCSE and A-level students, I am happy to offer two-hour sessions to cover both language and literature in greater depth.
Lessons are primarily online as I am currently studying at university, though in-person lessons in Oxford may be possible from October 2026. I can teach all ages and can provide a DBS check if required.
