About Irene
I am currently studying Graduate Entry Medicine at the University of Oxford, having previously completed a PhD in Neuroscience at UCL, an MSc in Neuroscience and a BSc in Molecular Biology.
Before starting medicine, I spent several years working in academic research at UCL, the University of Cambridge and King's College London. During this time, I supervised and mentored students, helping them develop practical research skills and understand experimental design, data analysis and scientific literature.
Teaching has remained an important part of my work. I have designed and delivered neuroscience teaching for students aged 16–18 through an Oxford summer school, taught visiting university students about medicine at Oxford, and am currently undertaking formal training in university teaching and learning at Oxford.
I enjoy teaching because I like taking subjects that initially seem complicated and finding a way to make the underlying ideas clear and intuitive. My aim is not simply to help students get through an exam, but to give them the confidence to reason through scientific problems independently.
Having studied and worked across molecular biology, neuroscience, research and medicine, I can also help students understand how the biology they learn connects to real research and clinical medicine.

I tailor each lesson to the student's level, goals and areas of difficulty. My approach is to build a strong understanding of the underlying biology rather than relying on memorisation, and then help students apply that understanding to exam questions and unfamiliar problems.
Lessons are usually 60 minutes and combine clear explanations, diagrams, worked examples and active questioning. For GCSE and A-level students, I can work directly from the relevant syllabus and incorporate past-paper questions, revision strategies and exam technique. For university students, I can provide more advanced teaching in biology, neuroscience, physiology, experimental design, data interpretation and critical reading of scientific papers.
I am a current Graduate Entry Medicine student at the University of Oxford and hold a PhD in Neuroscience from UCL, an MSc in Neuroscience and a BSc in Molecular Biology. I have taught neuroscience through an Oxford summer school, supervised and mentored university students during my research career, and currently undertake formal training in university teaching at Oxford.
My lessons are suitable for GCSE and A-level Biology students, university students studying biological or biomedical sciences, and students who want to deepen their understanding of neuroscience and related subjects.
