About Victoria
I have been a freelance tutor since 2013 and have taught A Level and GCSE English, Politics, History & Philosophy, worked with students with special needs, and helped them pass exams where previously they had failed. I have taught Business English and interview preparation including Oxbridge and employment preparation and have logged over 600 hours of tutoring and supporting students. Passionate about education and access in 2016 I was an advisor and mentor in addition to being a tutor for students under the Target Oxbridge scheme. I was also a keynote speaker at Target Oxbridge events, focused on mentoring and practical advice for students applying to Oxbridge. I have worked with a mix of private companies like Oxford Summer Courses and Oxford Exclusif and directly with students via platforms like Tutor Hunt or through direct recommendations. In 2018, I ran a 10 week tutoring course for international students for Oxford Summer Courses. In addition to teaching them philosophy and English at an advanced level, I also helped them improve their communication and language skills. In 2019-2020, I designed and created a fellowship program that partnered local schools with businesses in the tech and corporate sectors to run internship and work experience programs. In preparation for the events that I oversaw, I prepared the students for working in a professional environment, through role play and helping them become familiar with the language and culture of professional environments. I also teach non-native students Business English and prepare them for working in professional environments. I emphasize an understanding of culture and use a mix of theory and practice. Having trained at the National Youth Theatre I use role play alongside reading and writing to help prepare students for any situation, including managing conflict and taking a leadership role.

I work with students at all levels within secondary school, studying humanities subjects with all exam boards. I focus on GCSE and A level students and on English literature, language and History. But I do assist students doing philosophy, politics and religious studies too. I start with what the needs of the student are, what their difficulties have been, what their goals are and we plan together how we’re going to meet those goals. Sometimes the obstacles are around understanding the specifics and other times the student requires more practice to become comfortable with what is required. Either way, I begin with a conversation designed to tease this out and I’m committed to making it fun. I studied English at Oxford, and 4 years after I left I wrote my first novel which when it came out was specially recommended by Harvard and one of the top 5 books of the year according to The Times Radio. Despite this, I remember having a hard time in school. My ability to empathize with students as someone who struggled at school and my capacity to understand literature having overcome those struggles and thrived gives me a unique ability to support them and help them make the same journey from faltering to flourishing.

Victoria is an absolutely brilliant tutor who has provided me with exceptional help. I was extremely lucky to find her during the lead up to my English and Philosophy A levels. Her useful and insightful advice helped me to improve my revision techniques and gave me much greater confidence with practice papers. During our sessions she read my essays and exam answers to assess their readability and structure, and provided thoughtful feedback. I remain indebted to Victoria for her extraordinary help getting me through my studies.I simply cannot recommend her as a tutor highly enough.
