About Laura
I have just graduated from the University of Oxford with a degree in Classics from St John's College. At University, I specialised in Latin and Greek Literature, and held a position as the President of the St John's Russell Society for Classics. Prior to my degree, I had 7 years of experience studying Latin at my high school (Godolphin and Latymer) and achieved the highest grade in my school at A-Level (A*). At school, I was also President of the Classics Society and held a position on the Head Girls Team and won a scholarship in 2019 to attend the prestigious JACT Greek Summer School held at Bryanston School. I've been tutoring students in Latin both individually and in groups for the last six years, and with my help they have gone on to move up one or more sets in their Latin class, achieve A*s at GCSE and improve chances of success for those applying to Classical related subjects at university (particularly Oxford and Cambridge). I've also conducted weekly pro bono classes in Latin at the John Betts primary school in Hammersmith. CV available upon request.

I have taught Latin at all levels (from beginner to A-Level standard) for the last four years, whilst studying Classics at the University of Oxford. There, I specialised in Latin Literature, scoring firsts in all of my Latin Lit. modules, with particular honours in the Ovid paper. Having taught Latin GCSE for the last six years since I myself took the exam, I am very familiar with the examination system for Latin and the best way to approach it. Whilst I am comfortable tutoring students who already have some experience with Latin, I am also comfortable teaching those who are starting from scratch. Whilst Latin can look daunting from the outside, I believe it is one of the most rewarding languages a student can learn; both as a foundation for many modern European languages, but also as the key to accessing the fascinating world of ancient Western literature. As a tutor, I practise a style of teaching which focuses not only on the essential grammar of the language, but uses it as a base to explore and analyse seminal works of the Augustan period, namely that of Virgil, Ovid, Horace and Cicero.
