I find it most useful to begin with a free assessment session during which we are able to discuss how far along with your application you already are, your requirements from me and how we can proceed in order to offer you the best possible experience. I am able to tutor both students who would like help with one specific part of their application (eg the admissions tests) and those who would prefer a holistic approach.
Usually, students like to begin with their personal statement. I am able to help with anything from brain-storming and planning the initial draft, to ensuring the statement is structured effectively and ready to be submitted. Throughout the process, I will offer recommendations for further reading or activities which can really enhance the personal statement beyond what the student has already achieved, or give guidance on where to start for those who are struggling.
The next stage of preparation is admissions testing. I am best able to prepare students sitting the TSA at Oxford or Cambridge, having achieved a score of 86.1 (101.3 for problem solving) myself at the time of sitting. As the test consists of both a critical thinking and a problem solving section, I can offer lessons in formalised logic or approaches - teaching the "prerequisites" of sitting the exam. However, I find the most useful approach is to work through previous exam papers alongside the student, ensuring their understanding is complete and they are confidently able to answer all types of questions.
Finally, I am able to offer coaching in admissions interviews. Often these form the most important part of the application, so it is crucial students feel fully prepared for these. I offer several sets of mock interviews to ensure that students are able to perform at their best when the time comes.
