About David
I started playing chess in my early teens and quickly established myself as one of the best Juniors in the North East of England. I stopped playing for a few years while I went to University where I achieved a B.S.c 2:1 in IT.
Now I am in my 40s with two small children I want to share my chess knowledge with the right students who want to improve their game. I currently teach privately as well as in local schools in Newcastle.
In September 2023 I reached my lowest ECF rating in years at 1998, I was always talented and can beat FM's on my day but then lose to a 1800 the next week. At this point I was sick of losing to players less than my rating. I set myself the target of becoming either a ECF National Master or a FIDE Candidate Master within the next 5 years. I reassessed many aspects on how I approach the game and have gained about 130 points in the last 15 months. I am on my journey, can I help you with yours?

Recommendations
Recommendations come from relatives, friends and acquaintances of the teacher
I have known David for perhaps 30+ years. He has an excellent insight into chess and is able to transmit this to people/students in a language everybody can understand. He is friendly. has bundles of empathy and energy, great inter-personal skills and equally at home teaching young students or adults of any (chess playing) strength.
Currently the Development manager of our (large) local chess club - highly recommended.
