About Ross
Hello, my name is Ross. I am a first-class graduate in history and politics from Cambridge university with a deferred position at the LSE for an Economic History MSc.
I have a passion for intellectual discussion and believe strongly that communicating your ideas and presenting concepts to others is key to properly comprehending them. I have been a lifelong member and organiser of debate societies, and spaces such as the Cambridge Society for Economic Pluralism have perhaps most informed my understanding of the learning process – forming a personal and passionate relationship with new ideas and concepts often requires mulling over them in a back-and-forth manner with at least one other person.
Indeed, it is a working understanding of disciplines such as history, politics, sociology and economics as not just a static list of topic specifications to be covered, but an alive and evolving body of theoretical, methodological and sources-based debates and innovations that students can personally explore and situate themselves, their work and their understanding of the world within that I am most excited to propogate and nurture. I think that this notion is especially important for the building of genuine interest, confidence and academic success in these fields, and it is what has always decisively drawn me towards them. I therefore always try to help students establish a sense of their own intellectual voice as well as, and as a constituent factor of, exam success.

The lessons I offer span a single hour.
My approach to tutoring centres around the notion that, as individuals, different students have different interests and learning styles that should be respected and appreciated. As well as two years of experience tutoring secondary school students and helping to induct those making the transition from GCSE to sixth form, I have worked previously with younger students in the arts as the head of multiple university societies and have an art and design foundation diploma. I am able to take a multimedia approach to tutoring therefore, and make use of a mix of audio, visual, written and verbal forms of communication depending upon the specificities of those that I am working with and the
topic being covered. I enjoy fostering communicative and non-judgemental learning environments where education, building upon exercises and examples fine-tuned to properly engage specific students, takes more so the form of friendly conversation than lecture.
I mostly have experience working with early GCSE students, and I achieved top grades at both GCSE and A level, so have familiarity with the exam specifications and assessment criteria of boards such as EdExcel, AQA, OCR and iGCSE in a range of topics spanning the humanities and sciences. I am also capable of covering topics relating to the social sciences at a higher and A-level grade, though, due to my academic training.
