• ) Do you speak this language fluently because of your origins or because a teacher inspired you to learn?

  I speak Spanish fluently because of my origins - I'm from Argentina. However I also love learning about languages.

• Can you name a living, historical or fictional character that you think is the emblematic representative of the language's culture?

  There are some authors that I consider to be emblematic representations of Spanish culture. Miguel de Cervantes (1547 - 1616) was a novelist, playwright and poet who created Don Quixote. He is considered the most important and celebrated figure in Spanish Literature. Federico García Lorca (1898 - 1936) was one of the most important poets, playwrights and theater directors of the 20th century, some of his most famous works are Romancero gitano, Bodas de sangre and La casa de Bernarda Alba.From Argentina, I consider Jorge Luis Borges the most emblematic representative character of Spanish culture. He was a short-story writer, essayist, poet and translator, and a key figure in Spanish-language and international literature.

• Is there a typical word, phrase, tradition or behavior in the language that you particularly like?

  One thing I like about my culture is the fact that we make a lot of gestures while talking. I think Spanish speakers are really expressive.

• Why does speaking this language matter to you?

  To me speaking my language is important because it connects me with my culture. I believe that our mother tongue is part of our identity. My job as a Spanish teacher requires me to spend many hours of the day speaking in English and sometimes after I finish and I come back to my native language, it feels relaxing and comfortable.

• What is the main difficulty in learning this language and what can help the process of learning?

  I consider that the main difficulty is that the Spanish language has a wide variety of conjugations and verb tenses, which makes it complex. Also, the Spanish language it's different depending on the country you are in. For example, the word "car" in Spain is "coche", in Argentina "auto" and in Mexico "carro".

• Provide a valuable anecdote related to your language learning or your days at school.

  I have studied English since I was 12 years old and I took an exam (First Certificate) when I was 19, but it was only in 2020 that I had the opportunity to talk to native English speakers, and it was a surprising experience. Even though I had studied for many years I realised that it is fundamental to learn the language through conversation. Talking with native speakers gives you the opportunity to gain fluency and to understand the language in a deeper and more practical way.

• How has travel or a specific trip helped you to increase your skill and knowledge of the language?

  Other than English and Spanish I can also speak Italian. I had the opportunity to travel to Italy, where I could talk to native speakers in Italian but also in Spanish. This experience was enriching because when talking to someone who is not fluent in your language, you need to be able to express the same idea in different ways and to be as clear as possible. This helps you to learn more about your mother tongue; its structures, vocabulary, and also about your own culture.

• What makes you a Superprof in language?

  I could say that what makes me a Superprof in language is my passion for the subject. I want my students to reach their full potential and enjoy the experience as much as I do. I love languages, they allow me to connect with different cultures, giving me the opportunity to know and understand more about the world. I find this enriching. Also, language skills greatly increase job opportunities as well as open doors to new experiences and unlock the potential to communicate with millions of people who don't speak your mother tongue.
