About Ethan
I’m a saxophonist who specializes in tenor saxophone and enjoys helping beginners and developing players build strong fundamentals, tone, and confidence on the instrument. I attended Campbell University, where I performed in multiple ensembles including marching band, basketball pep band, wind ensemble, and jazz ensemble. I also served as a section leader in the marching band, leading sectional rehearsals and working closely with other saxophonists on technique and ensemble skills. My lessons focus on building strong tone, reading skills, and technique so students can succeed in school band or enjoy playing saxophone as a hobby. I teach both tenor and alto saxophone and welcome beginner and intermediate students.

I offer structured saxophone lessons for beginner and intermediate students, including school band members and adult learners. Lessons focus on building strong fundamentals such as tone production, reading music, rhythm, and playing in tune so students develop a confident and reliable sound on the instrument. For school band students, I help reinforce the skills needed to succeed in ensemble settings and can assist with preparation for auditions such as All-County and other honor bands. My background is primarily in classical wind ensembles, including college marching band and concert band, with additional experience in jazz ensembles. Students interested in jazz can learn foundational concepts such as articulation, style, reading lead sheets, and beginning improvisation appropriate for developing players. Lessons are tailored to each student’s experience level and goals, and I work to create a supportive environment where students can steadily improve their technique and confidence on the saxophone.
In our first lesson we’ll talk about your experience with the saxophone and your goals. We’ll check fundamentals like tone production, posture, and embouchure, and begin working on exercises that help develop a stronger sound and better control of the instrument. For band students, we can also look at current music or assignments.
Beginners with no prior experience are welcome.

Perfect! I had to book a saxophone lesson on short notice so my son could review some skills for an audition. Ethan was fantastic working with me to get everything scheduled. My son enjoyed the lesson and thought Ethan was patient and helpful. Definitely recommend!

I had the pleasure of playing in the saxophone section with Ethan during our shared time at Campbell University. Ethan was always encouraging and helpful to band mates and I know he will offer that same spirit to his students. He helped others grow and learn with patience, including me as I learned to march. Ethan is kind and judgement free and would be a delight to have as a teacher!
I work closely with Ethan in the Integrated Biosciences Ph.D. program at NCCU, where we have collaborated on multiple presentations and assignments, including presenting our work at the Nature Research Center in Raleigh, NC, during a public event focused on alcohol and Alzheimer’s disease. Throughout our work together, Ethan has consistently demonstrated a deep and detailed understanding of the subject matter, often filling in gaps in my knowledge with thoughtful explanations and precise insights. He has also been incredibly helpful in strengthening my quantitative skills, particularly with concepts such as serial dilutions, and regularly provides thorough feedback on presentations and written work. Ethan is a pleasure to collaborate with, knowledgeable, supportive, and highly reliable, and I strongly recommend his guidance and teaching.
Ethan is an outstanding tutor. During his time at Campbell University’s tutoring center, he consistently demonstrated a strong commitment to supporting students and was always willing to provide assistance. He tutored in both biology and chemistry. Ethan is highly intelligent and brings both skill and dedication to his work.
Ethan was my marching band sax captain while we were in college. He was very helpful when I didn't understand how a part was supposed to be play or what some notes that I didn't know were. I'm certain he will be a great asset for anyone who wants to learn to play the sax!
Ethan is a great sax player! We played together in college and he was such a joy to perform with. He was always determined to truly master the peace all while bringing joy to the rest of the ensemble. If you’re looking for a tutor that will help you improve your skills while maintaining the joy and thrill of performing, you’ve found your guy.

Lessons are taught online. Sessions are typically 60 minutes, though shorter lessons can be arranged for younger students. I generally recommend weekly lessons to help students make consistent progress, though biweekly lessons can also be arranged depending on the student’s schedule.
