About Erik
Hi! My name is Erik Markovskii — multi-instrumentalist, percussionist, and educator with more than 18 years of international performance and teaching experience. Online lessons worldwide — communication via Superprof messaging or WhatsApp/Telegram.
I teach:
🪘 Handpan (hang drum), Rav Vast, glucophone
🪘 Frame drums — daf, riq, tar, bendir
🪘 Darbuka, djembe, cajón
🪘 Jaw harp (vargan) and Caucasian nagara
I studied with leading world masters of percussion, including Zohar Fresco (Israel), Misirli Ahmet (Turkey), David Kuckhermann (Germany/France), Okay Temiz (Turkey), Berkant Çakıcı (Turkey), Khayrullo Dadoboev (Tajikistan), and Rovshan Jabbar (Azerbaijan). Their mentorship shaped my multicultural and integrative approach to rhythm and sound.
I hold a Bachelor's Degree in Psychology and Education from Kazan Federal University, and completed advanced professional training in Active Music Therapy. This background helps me adapt my teaching to each student's mindset — building rhythm, focus, and creative confidence without stress.
As a composer, my music has been nominated for The Golden Mask — Russia's highest national theatre award — in the Best Composer category. I have performed at major international festivals (Context. Diana Vishneva, Open Look, KazanForum) and on national Indian television.

Who these lessons are for:
Beginners — learn the fundamentals of rhythm, hand technique, and proper sound production. Start playing real grooves from your very first lesson, even from zero.
Intermediate players — explore complex rhythms, ornaments, and phrasing from world rhythmic traditions; develop dynamic variations and improvisation.
Advanced and professional musicians — refine technique, work with polyrhythms, odd meters, and hybrid styles, and shape your own artistic voice.
Music enthusiasts — ideal if you want to play for joy, join jam sessions, or add a new instrument to your creative world.
What you will learn:
Authentic playing techniques from Persian, Indian, Arabic, African, Turkish, and Latin American percussion schools
Rhythmic patterns used in modern styles: pop, rock, funk, jazz, and world fusion
Improvisation as the core skill — freedom and confidence in performance, no fear of mistakes
Conceptual thinking — how to use rhythm in dance, theatre, and interdisciplinary projects
Format:
Individual online lessons (Zoom / Google Meet) — available anywhere in the world
Personalized program tailored to your goals and instrument
Ongoing support between lessons: send me your practice recordings and receive detailed feedback
Help choosing and buying your first instrument from trusted makers (often with discounts for my students)
Beyond technique:
My main focus as a teacher is to help students develop improvisation, awareness, and creative flow. This skill not only brings confidence and expressiveness to your drumming, but also opens a much deeper understanding of music — one that stays with you for life and transfers to any other instrument.
First lesson — a short consultation: I'll help you figure out which instrument suits you best, recommend a starting setup, and answer all your questions.
Write me a message — looking forward to playing together!
Review
All of our reviews are collected by us and are 100% reliable. They correspond to a real experience lived by the students of Erik.
Excellent! Impressive player, but does not teach bodhran in the traditional sense. I wouldn't claim to teach the instrument were I him.
Perfect! A wonderful teacher. Knowledgeable, patient, prepared, and friendly. Has a good idea of where he wants to lead the student
Perfect! Eric is a fantastic teacher, with attention to details, deep understanding of different styles of music, and his lessons are engaging, well-prepared and most importantly, he genuinely cares about progress.
