About Rachel
I am lucky enough to come from a long line of educators in all areas of learning and from that heritage, I have developed a deep appreciation and enthusiasm for the craft of teaching. I love learning languages and sharing my German knowledge effectively; to help learners progress on their journey is a source of great pleasure for me. I get great satisfaction from seeing my tutees make strides. I have enjoyed my teaching experiences in all their formats but derive particular enjoyment from the level of personalisation that tutoring and teaching small classes of adults affords. As well as a BA (hons) in German from Royal Holloway, I also hold an MA in Holocaust Studies, an area of study which has continued to be a lifelong interest. The rest of my time is spent as a busy mum to two and making time to play my viola, sew, read and garden.

I am an enthusiastic linguist who wants to bring that same enjoyment to others in a supportive and relaxed atmosphere. I have a wide range of teaching experience, from one year spent working as a British Council English Assistant at two schools in Linz, 5 years as a teacher and Head of Faculty for MFL in the UK school system and as a community education tutor for my local council, offering in-person and online classes for the last four years. Over the last two years I have successfully taken on some private tutoring. I am very flexible in my approach to learning and will tailor the content of lessons to the needs of the learner. As an ex-school teacher, I have access to lots of textbook resources, as well as those aimed at adults. I have a wide variety of resources I created myself and am constantly selecting the best materials available online for my learners. I use a mixture of authentic materials and those especially designed for learners. I can tailor the focus of the lesson according to your area of interest or concern, whether that is grammar, conversation or reading and understanding. I am happy to offer lessons ranging in length from 30 minutes to an hour.

Details
My lessons are priced based on online tuition and I endeavour to ensure the costs remain reasonable whilst covering preparation time and resources.
At the moment I am unable to travel to meet students, unless the location happens to be one in which I already work in the Monmouthshire area.
I have limited availability to tutor students at my home.
