About Aisha

French Experience

I have studied French for a number of years. I started learning it in Junior School and when I was 15, I went on exchange to Orgeval, (a town not far from Paris) where I attended school for 5 weeks. Before starting LAMDA in London, I studied French at university level for a year at UWA (The University of Western Australia) in Perth, where I grew up. After this I attended an immersive langue school in Aix-en-Provence for a month. Since living in London I have studied at L’Insitute Francaise (the French Institute, in South Kensington) at Level C1.

Hello there! I provide a tailored teaching approach to each student, depending their level and what type of tutoring they wish to receive. Before starting lessons with a student, I will ask what it is they hope to gain from having French lessons and what level they hope to get to. I will try to gauge (either from them or a parent, if applicable) what kind of learner they are, eg. a visual, logical, aural or verbal etc. and apply this to our lessons together.

  • When did you start practicing? How did this passion find you?

    French:

I started learning French when I was seven years old. Some members of
my family are French, so it has always featured in my life in some
    way.

Vocal coaching/Accent modification:

I learned my skills as a vocal tutor while I was training at LAMDA
(The London Academy of Music and Dramatic Art) and have continued to
exercise them during both personal projects and tutorials with
    students.

    Acting:

I have always loved storytelling; theatre, film and the world of
pretend. From when I was quite little, I remember discovering that
dressing up and pretending to be other people/characters was something
that people were paid to do. This sounded wonderful to me, and so
began my desire to pursue this in my adult life.
  • Which artists or works affect you the most?

I’ve always admired Picasso as an artist. If you have a look at his
earlier works, his portraits are very technically conventional and
‘normal’ compared to the colourful and abstract style he later
developed. What I admire about this is that at the beginning of his
career he took the time to learn his craft properly, therefore
creating a strong foundation for whatever style he wanted to try next,
however abstract it might have been. I like to apply this philosophy
to my tutoring. If a student feels secure in the basic knowledge and
skills of the subject, then nothing will stop them from reaching their
    goal.
  • What are the qualities and skills required to succeed in this area?

    French:

I would say first and foremost it’s very important to enjoy learning
the language. French is beautiful and there are so many great films,
TV shows and books out there for students to enjoy. Making it a
frequent and enjoyable part of one’s life is crucial in developing
strong foundational skills in the language.

    Vocal coaching/Accent modification:

It’s important for students to feel understood and listened to. With
something like vocal coaching/accent modification, no one person is
the same. In order to ‘succeed’ in this subject it’s important to
understand how one’s body/mouth/tongue operates. It’s my job to ensure
that through relaxation, sufficient technical training and
communication, that students get the most out of our lessons in order
to get what they want from our lessons.

Acting:

So much of the acting industry is outside of our control. What we can
do, when practicing or taking part in any form of acting, is to make
sure we understand the life of the character we are attempting to
embody. We try to achieve this through being present and letting the
inner rhythm of the character come to life. I can help with this,
wether it be for audition practice or acting as a hobby. Having fun
and appreciating the process is also a sure way to succeed in enjoying
    this subject.
  • What is the most valuable advice you can give to help someone stay focused on creative projects?

I think structure is key to staying focused on creative projects.
The artist in a creative process can often oscillate between having
moments of clarity/genius followed by the sometimes long and seemingly
less useful moments of feeling lost. Both are essential to the final
outcome of the project, but they need complete freedom to exist in
exactly that way. Structure to one’s day is therefore paramount in
creating a goal based yet flexible creative environment.
  • How would you describe your passion; how does it make you feel?

I love teaching my students, I find it to be such a rewarding
experience. Of course it’s lovely to be able to help others, but it’s
working together as a team to enable my students to achieve their
goals that I like the most.
  • What creative achievements are you particularly proud of/?Have you ever been surprised by a student; by their ability or quick progression?

I have been so inspired and amazed by the abilities of many of my
students. I find their dedication to and vision for what they want
from the lessons particularly inspiring. I’ve been very proud of the
positive ripple effect my lessons have had on other areas of their
lives (with mainly Acting and Vocal Coaching students).
  • Being a superprof is an art! What is your secret?

My secret is: listen well, communicate well and plan ahead! It’s
    quite simple really!
