About Dana

"By faith, we understand that the universe was created by the word of God, so that what is seen was not made out of things that are visible." (Hebrews 11:3) I have reflected on this truth often as I approach the study of Chemistry. It is a wonderful thing to be able to study God's handiwork up-close, knowing that everything happens for a reason and because of His purposeful design, it makes the study of science possible to begin with. Cambridge defines the word science as, "the careful study of the structure and behavior of the physical world, especially by watching, measuring, and doing experiments, and the development of theories to describe the results of these activities." The word 'science' itself actually comes from a Latin word meaning 'knowledge', which is in part why I am on this platform. I’m here to share my knowledge of Chemistry with hungry young minds who enjoy the pure science of Chemistry as I do. I was originally tested for IGCSE and AS-level chemistry when I lived in Egypt before moving to Canada. I finished high school in Canada where I studied SCH4U, and it was there where my passion for Chemistry really started to grow. I ended up pursuing my BSc at Trent University for pure Chemistry, where I graduated with an Honors degree. Believe me when I say that I know the woes, the stresses and all the fun associated with progressing through each of those different academic stages! I can truly say that I have “been there and done that” and I am excited to be of help to you wherever you’re at in your learning journey. I live with my husband in Ontario, Canada where we are constantly growing our skills and experiences through continuing education by various forms of learning. I can’t help but be passionate about helping younger scholars to achieve their learning goals as well. Above all, I love my Savior, Jesus Christ The Lord, whom I have the privilege of knowing is the One who has created and upholds all things. He has given us a wonderful world to be able to study, watch and measure, particularly through the field of Chemistry. “'For He rescued us from the domain of darkness, and transferred us to the kingdom of His beloved Son, in whom we have redemption, the forgiveness of sins. He is the image of the invisible God, the firstborn of all creation. For by Him all things were created, both in the heavens and on earth, visible and invisible, whether thrones or dominions or rulers or authorities—all things have been created through Him and for Him. He is before all things, and in Him all things hold together.” (Colossians 1:13-17)

I am here to help you succeed! I'm here to walk with you through your learning journey and help you better grasp the key concepts you would like to improve in. For our first free 30-minute lesson, I will ask questions to better understand your thoughts and expectations for what you want to get out of our time together. I rely on my students to tell me what they need from me so that I can tailor my approach to best suit their immediate needs. Honest communication often produces the best results and I'm a firm believer that there are no such things as foolish questions. Throughout our time together, I will ensure that you have a firm grasp of basic core chemistry principles. These are the building blocks of a comprehensive understanding and will prove invaluable as we dive into problem-solving together. What can you expect from a typical lesson plan? - Questions: I ask some questions to confirm what your knowledge level is so I can better focus my efforts. - Explanation: I will always explain things until you understand them. I like to communicate ideas in a visual way to assist my students with retention. I make use of whiteboards, PowerPoint presentations and other means to demonstrate the theories and concepts that I will be explaining. - Reactionary: I need your help just as much as you need mine. Without knowing what concepts or questions you are struggling with, I won't know how best to tailor my lesson plans for you. IMPORTANT: I ask all of my students to send me a list 24-hours before a scheduled lesson (if you're a university student I would require that you send your list 48 hours before a scheduled lesson), highlighting the key areas you would like to focus on during our time together. This guarantees that I can best meet your immediate and changing needs as they arise. If you do not provide me with a list of items you wish to cover in an upcoming session, then I will assume that you need some more time covering the concepts discussed during our previous lesson and I will prepare to dive deeper into those areas of focus. - Focus Problems: Many of my students provide their own specific questions that they have trouble answering and I walk them through the theory on how to best approach solving those problems. For those who do not have a specific question in mind, or for those who are looking for some additional training, I will provide some prepared questions to challenge my students and stimulate continued learning. Who are the students that I am looking for? - Those studying for IGCSE or Cambridge International AS and A Level chemistry - High school students attending public or private schools - Undergraduate students with exceptions (due to workload limitations, send me a direct message describing the course(s) you are taking and at which institution so I can confirm if I would be the right tutor for your particular program) What now? Send me a message and let's get started! I look forward to speaking with you and helping you grow.
