About Ting
Hello, I’m Dorothy — a native Mandarin speaker originally from Malaysia, now based in the UK. With a multicultural background and over five years of hands-on experience in tutoring and translation, I bring both linguistic expertise and an educator’s understanding to every lesson.
I hold a Master’s degree in Education (Special Educational Needs & Inclusion) from the UK and a Bachelor’s degree in Early Childhood Education from Taiwan. These qualifications have shaped my approach to teaching: patient, adaptive, and grounded in evidence-based learning strategies. Currently, I work as a Mandarin tutor, personal assistant for autistic individuals and early interventionist, roles that further strengthen my ability to communicate clearly, support diverse learning needs, and design practical, student-centred learning experiences.
I have taught learners of all ages — from early childhood and KS1 learners to KS4, GCSE students, and adults seeking to strengthen their Mandarin for personal, academic, or professional reasons. My teaching style is collaborative and flexible; I believe that language learning is most effective when it is personalised, engaging, and relevant to your goals.

I offer in-person lessons and like to meet new students first to discuss their goals and learning style. This helps me tailor the program specifically to their needs, making each lesson engaging, practical, and effective.
The online course will be presented through customized online games, audio-visual materials, and reward mechanisms, designed to emphasize the learning of Chinese that students want to focus on.
The course is approximately 45mins to one hour, including a flexible break of 10 minutes.
I have previously taught online lessons in English for middle school students in Taiwan, guiding them in grammar, writing, and reading.
The age range for learning Chinese is not limited, but I have experience teaching preschoolers, elementary school students, and middle school students. The key is an interest in Chinese, and I recommend the course for beginners or intermediates.
