About João Pedro
I am a multidisciplinary artist and researcher whose career has been defined by the intersection of music, body, space, and community. My passion for artistic expression began on stage as an oboist, where I deeply explored technique, interpretation, and the intimate connection between performer and audience. This search for deeper communication naturally led me to the world of performance and theater, where I now research, as part of my PhD in Contemporary Art, the dynamics between body, space, and assemblage.
Although I specialized in the oboe, I have played a variety of instruments — from saxophone and clarinet to traditional Capoeira instruments (which I practiced for six years) — deepening my connection with sounds from different cultures. At the heart of my work is a belief in art as a force for community. Whether through music, theater, or performance, I strive to create spaces where people can collaborate, experiment, and express themselves freely.
As President of the General Assembly Board of the Teatro dos Estudantes da Unviersidade de Coimbra, I see art not only as an individual practice, but as an ecosystem that needs to be cultivated with strategic vision and passion. I am always seeking new dialogues, whether between score and movement, between academic research and artistic practice, or between solo creation and community art.

Mastering the Oboe with Body Awareness and Artistic Expression.
Hello! I'm João, master in Musical Performance, and currently a PhD candidate in Contemporary Art at the University of Coimbra. I offer oboe and music theory lessons for all levels, from beginners to advanced musicians.
I have a long academic and personal research career involving instrumental performance, body awareness, memorization and musicality.
My teaching approach goes beyond simply playing the right notes. I believe that true music is born from the integration of technique, body, and intention. Therefore, I have developed a unique method that combines:
- Basic fundamentals of the oboe: breathing and air emission; embouchure; articulation; fingering;
- Applied music theory: not just reading scores, but understanding the language behind the notes – from the relationship between sounds to the differences in expression between the Baroque, Classical, Romantic and Contemporary periods;
- Body awareness for musicians: combining my experience and training in theater and physiology, along with my long history of sports, I integrate stretching, warm-ups, and body awareness exercises for instrumental performance into my classes, preventing injuries and improving freedom of expression;
- Cognitive strategies for performance: I teach advanced memorization techniques (muscular, auditory, semantic) and stage anxiety management, so that you feel confident and present in each performance;
- Communication and expression: I work on the art of performance – how to communicate your interpretation to the audience, managing silence, constructing the musical phrase and projecting your voice through the instrument.
