About Dan
I am a qualified Clinical Psychologist with an undergraduate degree in psycho-social sciences as well as a Masters degree in Psychological research methods.
I recently completed a doctorate in Clinical Psychology with Exeter University during which I passed my thesis viva with no amendments. Prior to becoming a psychologist I worked as a research assistant for Middlesex University for several years. The job involved completing statistical analyses (using SPSS) on national data sets, delivering training to report writers and programme facilitators and designing research protocols for evaluating the efficacy of the Families and Schools Together (FAST) programme.
In my latter years of clinical work as a Senior Assistant Psychologist, I also had a dual role as an Information Analyst for 3 years. This involved collecting and interpreting data sets within the secure hospital where I worked and regularly producing reports for various internal and external governing bodies including CQC and NHS England.
This is my first time being a paid tutor which i have now been doing for just over 2 years. All my previous experience of tutoring and mentoring has been either informal or delivered as past of my past job role. For example, in my previous job, I ran a regular research group to help members of my team work towards producing research publications and preparing for the clinical psychology doctorate application process.

If you choose me as your tutor, we will spend the first free session discussing your needs and identifying what you would like to get out of our time together. I want to be able to provide you with a learning experience which is bespoke and tailored to your individual needs.
Perhaps you are currently doing a statistics or SPSS module as part of your current qualification and want some extra help going through the lectures or course materials? Maybe you have no experience of SPSS or statistics whatsoever and want to do some extra learning as it's a subject you have always found interesting. Whatever your learning needs, I will be honest about whether I think I can help you achieve your goals.
In my experience, lessons regarding statistics and SPSS have always focussed very much on process. You tend to be told the name of a particular statistical test, a bit of the theory behind it as well as some equations, the assumptions associated with its application and then how to perform it and interpret the results. As a result, after a lot of the formal teaching I have received, I have found myself knowing "how" but not always knowing "why?" It is this second part that I tend to focus on in my tutoring. I believe that having a better concept of why we are doing what we are doing can really enhance a person's understanding of statistical principles and methodology as well as their ability to use SPSS.

Thank you Dan for your guidance and supportPerfect! Dan is exactly the tutor I needed to find - wish I'd found him two years ago! His knowledge of SPSS, and stats in general, is broad and deep and he leaves you feeling confident in the data and results.
Too often stats is learned by rote, with tutors or peers running analyses as they've been taught, often without knowing why specific options or data entry are useful or necessary. Dan provides a rationale for what he teaches but also isn't afraid to admit when he doesn't know or hasn't used a specific test in a while. He rapidly educates himself in what's needed to give best advice.
He has patience and understanding to handle the most basic of questions and explains things really well. I have hope that I will grow to love stats again, as I once did, and thank Dan for helping in that. I now feel assured that my analyses for my thesis will be sound. Thank you.Excellent! After my stats exam’s failure I was struggling with self-confidence and motivation to retake it. I was so lucky to e-met Dan here! Dan has not only helped me overcome stats’ phobia but even made me enjoy the subject which was almost impossible as I consider myself a person of a ‘humanities bent’. Dan is calm, patient, committed, supportive and reliable. He has an impressive knowledge of the subject and a gift of explaining complicated matters with ease using visual/graphical examples. I could feel his genuine interest in how I had been progressing. I also appreciate Dan’s positive attitude, flexibility, and a comfortable space that he has been always holding for me during our lessons.
With Dan’s guidance and expertise, I developed a good knowledge of the subject and a confidence to use it under a time-pressure which allowed me to successfully retake the exam last week.
Additionally, Dan helped me with proof-reading of some of my written Assignments.
