About Lidia
I am a native Spanish speaker from Cuba and currently work as a postgraduate associate at Yale School of Medicine. I earned my bachelor’s degree in Biological Sciences from Florida International University and am fluent in both Spanish and English.
My teaching experience includes tutoring an adult English learner and serving as a university anatomy learning assistant, where I led small-group lessons and exam-review sessions. These experiences taught me how to explain challenging concepts clearly, patiently, and in ways that reflect each student’s individual needs.
Having learned English after immigrating to the United States, I understand that learning another language can sometimes feel intimidating. I strive to create a welcoming environment where students feel comfortable asking questions, making mistakes, and practicing without judgment. I am dependable, organized, and committed to helping every student become a more skilled and confident Spanish speaker.

My tutoring approach is personalized, practical, and encouraging. I begin by learning about each student’s current Spanish level, goals, interests, and preferred learning style. I then adapt my teaching methods to their needs, using conversation practice, guided exercises, visual materials, real-life examples, and clear explanations of grammar and vocabulary.
A typical lesson begins with a short review and conversational warm-up. We then introduce a new concept, practice it together, and apply it through speaking, reading, listening, or writing activities. At the end, I review the main takeaways, answer questions, and suggest manageable practice for the next session.
As a native Spanish speaker from Cuba who is fluent in English, I understand how to explain the language from both perspectives. I also have experience tutoring an adult English learner and leading university-level anatomy study groups, which taught me how to break down unfamiliar material patiently and adjust lessons based on a student’s progress.
My lessons are appropriate for children, high-school and college students, and adults at the beginner or intermediate level. I can help with conversational Spanish, pronunciation, vocabulary, grammar, homework, exam preparation, and building confidence using Spanish in everyday situations.
