About Roderick
My name is Roderick, current student in University of Sydney. I was a busker and live performer in China for more than a year, and an Acappella group member in the U.S doing both singing and beat-boxing.
Honestly, becoming a full-time teacher is in my "Top 3 don't wanna do jobs in future" list. But when I was learning, I always wanted my teachers to take slightly different approaches. Maybe, a little more friendly, a little more fun, a little more tailored to what I needed.
So, that's why I'm here. I thought maybe I can help someone else to have some fun while learning something hard. Maybe another person's interest can be sparkled if I add what I felt was missing in my journey to this teaching.
I've lived in four different countries, interacted with diffrent people, cultures, and classes. No matter where are you from or what age are you, in my classes, I will try my best to accomodate to your hopes and opinions, not the other way around. And I will always treat you as a friend with respect!

0-12 years old, my family called my singing "worse than a pigeon fighting with a rat". Junior high, my parents can recognize that I was singing not mumbling. High school, I could sing in tune but often broke on a F4. Now it's been another five years, after experiencing 3 system changes, countless pronounciation changes and practices, I could say I can sing and I'm no worse than any of my friend who started knowing how to sing before me.
What I'm trying to say is that if I can, you can. Talent doesn't matter, what matters are passion and dedication. Anyone can sing not matter when they start. I will try my best to ensure you improving in the right way with my experiences, while customzing your own learning experience and developing your own voice. If you wanna sing but don't know how, come and try your first class!
The general style of my classes should be chill, fun, and friendly. Thus, the course might not fit for those who want to push hard.
For Adult entry-level singing, the key is to avoid being too "scientific". With internet, people can get overwhelmed by all different techniques, tones, and methodologies. This course aims to simplify the process and concepts, and help anyone who wants to sing but starts late, who don't know how to learn, or who wants to be a step closer to their idols.
For Beat-box entry-level teaching, the key is more of the student and less of the teacher. A sound can take a few weeks to several months to develop. So the key is patience. I was in a college Acappella group for two years in United States as the main beat-boxer. Performing with a group versus solo can be very different. This class aims to teach basic sounds and tempos, cooperate with singers if needed, or learn new sounds together.
