About Kei
I’m a native Japanese speaker currently living in Christchurch, New Zealand, and I love helping people learn Japanese in a fun and supportive way. I’m currently studying for the Japanese Language Teaching Competency Test to continue improving my teaching skills.
I have over 3 years of tutoring experience and more than 8 years of language exchange experience, so I enjoy working with students of all levels and backgrounds. I also have 2 years of administrative experience at a Japanese logistics company, so I can help with business Japanese as well.
My goal is to create relaxed and practical lessons where students can feel comfortable, build confidence, and enjoy making progress in Japanese!

I take a flexible, student-centered approach, tailoring lessons to suit each learner’s needs and goals. I focus on practical communication skills while building grammar and vocabulary through conversation and practice.
For beginners, we start with basic phrases and gradually build confidence and skills. For more advanced learners, I can also include complex topics and business Japanese if needed.
Lessons are typically 60 minutes long, and I offer both in-person and online lessons.
My lessons are suitable for all levels, from complete beginners to advanced learners, including university students and professionals.

She always reviews the lesson thoroughly, so even though we only have one lesson per week, I can clearly see that her skills are steadily improving. Perfect! Kei is a great teacher, she is incredibly kind, patient and puts real effort into each lesson which makes them feel tailored to my needs. She keeps track of what's been taught so the lessons flow smoothly and don't feel overwhelming. I also appreciate the revision and homework materials so I can reinforce what I've learned in between lessons.
