About Hugo
Here's the bio:
I am a native French speaker and recent Chemical Engineering graduate from Loughborough University, one of the UK's highest-ranked engineering institutions. French has been my strongest subject throughout my entire education, achieving top marks at GCSE, A* at A-Level, and the highest grades in every French module I completed at university. Combined with my engineering degree, this demonstrates a level of academic discipline and analytical thinking that I bring directly into my tutoring.
Being a native speaker means I can offer something most tutors cannot: genuine fluency, natural pronunciation, and an instinctive feel for the language that goes beyond what any textbook teaches. I know the curriculum inside out and understand exactly where students tend to struggle, whether that is mastering grammar structures, building confidence in speaking, or tackling the more complex written tasks at A-Level.
I am committed to providing a professional, structured and encouraging environment in every session. All lessons are conducted online, making them accessible and convenient for students and parents alike. I offer online one-to-one French tutoring for GCSE and A-Level students, covering all four skills: reading, writing, listening and speaking. As a native French speaker who achieved A* at A-Level and top marks in French throughout university, I bring both fluency and a deep understanding of exactly what examiners are looking for at each level.
My approach combines structured grammar work with natural conversation practice, helping students not just pass their exams but actually feel comfortable using the language. I know from experience how the jump from GCSE to A-Level can feel overwhelming, particularly with the writing and speaking components, and I tailor sessions accordingly depending on where a student needs the most support.
Lessons are typically one hour, conducted online via video call, and are adapted to the student's specific syllabus and exam board. I focus heavily on past paper practice and exam technique as assessments approach, while building strong foundations earlier in the year. Sessions are suitable for students of all ages working towards their GCSE or A-Level French exams, as well as younger learners looking to build a strong foundation in the language early on.
