About Maaria
I was inspired to start tutoring because I’ve always loved helping others learn and reach their potential. Seeing how a bit of guidance and encouragement can completely change someone’s confidence and performance motivated me to share my knowledge in a meaningful way. I wanted to make learning less intimidating and more enjoyable, especially for students who may have struggled or lost motivation. Knowing that I can make a real difference in someone’s academic journey and help them believe in their own abilities is what inspired me to become a tutor.

Firstly, I get to know the student and discuss what preferences they may have on how the lessons are run. Therefore, my lessons are tailored to each student’s needs and preferences along with being engaging with interactive activities. I take great detail to make sure the lessons align with the exam board's curriculum the student’s school uses for the subject - ensuring students know exactly what they are required to, so they can perform their very best in their official exams. I often use PowerPoint presentations to explain key concepts and content visually and clearly. I also help students create their own revision resources such as flashcards and mind maps to support independent learning and memorisation. For exam preparation, particularly in biology and chemistry (A-Level and GCSE), I focus heavily on question banks, past papers and exam-style application questions, helping students understand mark schemes and common examiner expectations. I guide students through entire GCSE, A-Level and AS past papers where we can then go through incorrect questions in depth and rectify mistakes to ensure they do not occur again.
I have 3 years of experience tutoring students of various ages and backgrounds, adapting my approach to suit each individual learner’s preferred style and pace. Through my experience in tutoring, I have successfully supported students in improving their grades, with 85% of students jumping 2 or more grades from their original grade prior to tutoring. I do this by having a heavy focus on examination technique and preparation which ensures students are comfortable with applying their knowledge to unfamiliar exam scenarios, and by helping students curate structured revision plans and resources which boost overall confidence and retention in content. Additionally, I create original and versatile revision resources that focus on simplifying concepts into simple ideas for the students I tutor. These resources are made using scientifically-proven methods to improve memory retention (i.e. retrieval practice and stepwise narratives).
Through my experience, I have learnt how to communicate well with students and how to efficiently break down difficult concepts (i.e. challenging scientific concepts) concisely and adjust explanations based on the student’s level/capacity. Additionally, I have developed good organisational skills which help me to plan sessions with clear goals, and sessions with carefully planned success criteria and actively implement ways to achieve them.
