As a tutor, I gear most of my lesson towards what the student would like to accomplish. Based on what they would like to accomplish, I will give the student options as to what repertoire to begin lessons with. Below is the outline of a typical first lesson.
-Getting to know you
Why are you seeking a tutor? What goals would you like to achieve? Where are we starting?
-Warm ups
Based on the goals, choosing warm ups that best suit what we are looking to achieve. For example, if we are trying to release tension in the voice we will most like start with lip buzzing.
-Sing Through
Choose a song you are comfortable with and sing through it so I can see where we will begin.
-Feedback
Based on your sing through, I will develop a plan to help reach your goals.
-Repertoire introduction
Listen to and choose a song that you would be most interested in learning that fits the goals we are trying to achieve.
-Run through
-Set up plan for the next lesson.
Most of my teaching is dependent on the student and what they need. I have a variety of tools that I use based on my experience and have had great success. I am happy to work with students at any experience level, preferably middle school aged or older.
