About Lee
Hello everyone! My name is Xuan Yao Lee, and I am both a Chinese language teacher and a piano teacher. I have 7 years of experience teaching students of all ages, helping them develop their language skills and musical abilities. As a Chinese teacher, I focus on making language learning engaging and practical, using interactive activities to build confidence in speaking, reading, and writing. I believe that learning a language is not just about memorizing words but also about understanding the culture behind it. As a piano teacher, I strive to make music both enjoyable and educational. Whether you are a beginner learning your first notes or an advanced student refining your technique, I tailor lessons to each student’s needs, helping them grow as musicians while developing a lifelong appreciation for music. I am passionate about teaching and excited to support you on your journey, whether in language or music. I look forward to learning and making progress together!

Warm-up (10 min) • Teacher Greeting: Say “你好 (nǐ hǎo)” and encourage students to repeat. • Quick Discussion: Ask students if they know any Chinese words. • Cultural Insight: Briefly explain that Mandarin is a tonal language and used widely in China. ⸻ 2. Vocabulary Introduction (15 min) Introduce and practice these key phrases: Chinese Pinyin English 你好 nǐ hǎo Hello 你好吗？ nǐ hǎo ma? How are you? 我很好 wǒ hěn hǎo I’m fine 你叫什么名字？ nǐ jiào shénme míngzi? What’s your name? 我叫… wǒ jiào… My name is… 很高兴认识你 hěn gāoxìng rènshì nǐ Nice to meet you • Pronunciation Practice: Repeat together and individually. • Tone Practice: Emphasize correct pronunciation of tones. ⸻ 3. Practice Activities (20 min) 1. Role-play: Students pair up and greet each other using learned phrases. 2. Listening Game: The teacher says a phrase, and students point to the correct written Chinese characters. 3. Flashcards: Match pinyin, characters, and meanings. ⸻ 4. Speaking Practice & Wrap-up (15 min) • Student Presentations: Each student introduces themselves using “我叫…” • Q&A: Ask students how they feel about learning Chinese so far. • Homework: Practice writing 你好, 你好吗？, and 我叫… three times each.
