About Seal
I taught professionally for three years in North New Jersey, before relocating to North Carolina to focus on my art. In my time as a full-time teacher, I loved working one-on-one with students. Building self-esteem, growing through mistakes, and helping them shift the idea that a question is simply something to be googled, and answered but rather a portal to new ways of thinking and creativity. I feel strongly that learning happens mutually, between teacher and student, and I look forward to getting to know you, and learning from you!

Each session will begin with a check-in. First on the human level, and then regarding the student's needs and goals for the session. After our check-in, I will ask the student to either take a few deep breaths with me, stretch, or dance with me, or listen to a short poem to ground ourselves together for our session. These two activities will create a comfortable, safe, and directed virtual space for learning, and will take up to five minutes at most. Once our opening routine is complete, I will suggest a format for our time together based on what the student shared during our check-in. If a student does not bring any work to our session, we can work on reading comprehension, creative writing, public speaking, and more, depending on and tailored to the student's individual interests. The more I get to know a student, the more I can pre-prepare, helping them find more enjoyment in learning itself. I work with students from 3rd grade through high school, and have training in special education.
