I teach up to high school level. I completed my high school in Nepal.I am currently a sophomore in st. John's college. I love mathematics. I can teach algebra, calculus, pre -calculus and basically everything from mathematics. I can also teach physics and chemistry. I have taught several kids. All of them liked me. These are the common things every tutor writes. Let me tell you the things I believe only I possess. Some tutors I have seen are boring. All they do is teach. However, I know what kids want. They not only want to learn but learn in fun ways. And I know how to teach them in a fun way. This way they will learn effectively. I am a type of guy who sharpens an axe before chopping a tree. If your kids do not want to learn or they are not in a mood, no tutor(doesn't matter how well they know the subject matter) can teach them effectively. They will forget everything after a while. My strategy is different. First, I tell them the importance of the subject. I tell them the fun way to use the learning in their normal life. This way they are interested in learning. One of the qualities I have is that I can relate everything kids say to the materials I am supposed to teach. Let's say Sam is a kid I teach calculus to. He is bored and starts talking about, let's say T.V. I do not shut him up and tell him to focus on study. Instead, I continue the conversation. In this case, I would ask; wouldn't it be fun if the T.V. was bigger? He is surely going to say 'yes'. I would then ask him if it would be more fun if the T.V. was some weird shape and not a rectangle. He would definitely agree. Then I would ask him how would you calculate the area of that T.V. since it is not rectangle or any other standard shape and we only have formula to calculate the areas of standard shapes. Bam! Integration. See, how I sneakily took his attention back to calculus without cutting him off. This is how you do it. This is why, there is no kid(who I have taught) who doesn't like me. And parents have always been impressed with how fast and how interested their kids become in their studies.
This is for teenagers. What if your child is just 6 years old. I have my own method for them too. Usually, they are pretty easy. Just compliment on what they are doing even if they are doing it wrong. Let's say I am teaching them multiplication and they say 9 time 8 is 70. Instead of telling them that they are wrong, compliment them. Ask them how did he do the calculation so fast. Act like you are amazed by his/her skill. Then tell them that they were really close and if they had done it little bit slower, they would have gotten it right. I do the same thing. This way they never lose interest and try to make it correct next time.
These are just the sample techniques I use while teaching. There are many more. I am focusing on these rather than which college I attended and how great it was or how my GPA never was less than 3.5 because those are the things other tutors do. You do not get to know their personalities from that. Anyways, I have told you about my teaching style. Now it is up to you.
