I use the same approach whether I am teaching French or English.
When learning a new language it is important to practice reading, writing and speaking. Elements of all three of these are what make up my lessons. A typical 60 minute lesson would look something like this:
The routine (10 minutes)
We use this time to warm up with some questions such as:
-How are you? (Comment ca va?)
- What's the date today? (Quel est la date Aujourd'hui?)
-What's the weather like? (Quel temp fait il?)
-What are you or What will you be doing today (Qu'est-ce que tu fais aujourd'hui ? ou Qu'allez-vous faire aujourd'hui ?)
The Reading of the message of the day (10 minutes)
-I do a reading of a few paragraphs based on the subject matter we are studying and then the student reads it.
The presentation (15 minutes)
-I do a presentation based on the structures we are studying. The presentation is heavily based on visuals. For example, if the structure of the lesson is "What genre of film do you like? (Quel genre de film aime tu?) , we spend this time looking at visuals that represent this while speaking that structure.
The mini composition (15 minutes)
-We use this time to write a short composition based on the structure of the lesson. I show the student a model and they must personalize it with their own info.
OR (at this point I may alternate by doing a reinforcement game)
Reinforcement games (15 minutes)
-We do games to help reinforce the structures student are studying. The games can be live over the camera or online games such as kahoot or blooket.
Short conversation practice (5 minutes)
-We practice speaking the structures with a short scripted conversation.
Check out (5 minutes)
-I ask students to give me feedback on what they learned during the lesson or how they felt about the lesson. I usually do this by asking them in real time or getting them to fill out a form or poll.
I am qualified to teach these subjects for the following reasons.
-I am a native French speaker
-I am currently teaching French at middle school level
- I have taught English in Schools, overseas in Korea and online.
-I have a degree in drama from Dalhousie University and a bachelor of Education from an Saint Francis Xavier, both of which are English universities.
-I have obtained a CELTA through Cambridge in England.
My lessons are mostly centered for intermediate to advanced students
