About Tara
I have a Ph.D. in Biology from the University of California, San Diego. I am a microbiologist by training and have extensive experience in molecular biology, and bioinformatics. As a Ph.D. student, I was a teaching assistant for three microbiology classes. Moreover, I took three courses in inclusive teaching for undergraduates, which led me to independently design and teach three courses as the Instructor on record in the Summers of 2022 and 2023.
Moreover, I am passionate about diversity and inclusion in teaching as a minoritized student. For this reason, I take an inclusive approach to my teaching to ensure all my students are active participants in their own learning.

I am primarily experienced in teaching and tutoring high school and undergraduate students. My teaching philosophy has two main tenets.
First, the learning experience is for the student, not the teacher. I take my time to acquaint myself with each student and their specific needs. I also encourage my students to practice metacognition, that is, to understand how they best process new information. I provide techniques that can be used inside and outside of the classroom to facilitate long-term retention of information.
Secondly, learning is a journey. I prioritize a patient teaching approach and encourage my students to embrace the unique pace of their learning.
