About Alex

I am a music graduate and leader of London's newest samba school. I have been a gigging musician in London's Brazilian music scene for 16 years.

I parade as part of Rio Carnaval every year and work side-by-side with some of the biggest names in Rio's carnival scene.

My private students play in community groups and are looking for a teacher who offers musical insight straight from the source.

If you are looking for more, I am the teacher for you.

About the lesson

Students have studied and prepared with me and paraded in Rio Carnival.

I have been teaching samba privately and in schools and music conservatoires for more than a decade in London.

How it works:

Students are given material and exercises tailored to their level of experience be they beginners or advanced players.

Lessons are one hour in length, with first lesson online.

Instruments covered:

- cavaquinho
- chocalho (shaker)
- tamborim
- caixa
- repique
- surdos

Alex has been teaching me for 11 years, in group classes and also some individual classes. I went from never having played a drum in my life to playing in samba schools in Carnival in Rio de Janeiro and having the time of my life.

His lessons are well-structured, tailored to me, clear, and most importantly, very, very fun! He is incredibly knowledgeable and clearly passionate about sharing this with others.
