About Shambhavi

I am a medical student who did English Literature at A-level and is still passionate about the subject at all levels. I achieved 4 A*s at A-level, my strongest subject being English.

I taught Maths and English lessons to many students for two years during sixth form and helped them to improve their reading and comprehension skills, develop critical analysis and get into university.

I strongly believe that doing English at A-level has helped me at medical school and in life, giving me the skills I need to communicate, empathise and understand world culture and history.

In my lessons I would like to encourage a love of reading, enjoyment of the subject beyond doing exams and above all celebrating the language!

About the lesson

I attend medical school and would like to give English lessons to students of all ages, but feel that I could be particularly helpful to students taking English at GCSE and A-level, having attained the highest grades at both levels.

In my lessons, I want to help younger students be able to understand and analyse books and literature while widening their knowledge of the world and their imagination. In addition, I would like to teach the correct grammar and structural features that will help them to write and communicate properly in different settings.

Furthermore, I wish to teach older students examination content, techniques and structure. The mark scheme for exam boards for older students would be our ultimate guide. However, I would also like to encourage an understanding and passion for the subject amongst my students. I would incorporate wider reading and media in order to delve deeper into English for older students and relate themes within the subject to real life contexts.

Each lesson would be tailored for the literature and linguistic feature that each student is learning about, breaking them down to make them more understandable and enjoyable. The lessons would be tailored towards achieving the highest possible mark in an exam using the techniques that I used; in addition they would show why English literature and the language is important in everyday life.
