About Brandon
I’m a third year medic at Newcastle. I am experienced tutoring medical and school students, including those with additional needs. My lesson style is interactive.
I’m from a widening participation background. During university, I’ve worked on residential summer schools for GCSE and A Level students, encouraging them to consider university. I’m my second year, I undertook research and produced a formal report for the university, about how they can support students who have been in care.
Having started clinical rotations recently, I’ve realised I love being in theatres. So I’m most interested in surgery. I’m Vice President of the cardiology society. In addition, I’m conference lead for the national medical student cardiology society. This means we’ll be holding the next cardiology conference at Newcastle’s medical school.
That’s enough about work! I’m an energetic, optimistic and honest character. I’m pretty sporty. I love running most mornings. I often cycle in to my hospital rotations. I cook freshly too most days (great skill to learn if you’re off to uni soon as it will save you lots of money!).

My lesson style is interactive. I like asking questions to ensure each student understands the material. Active learning (like practice questions) is infinitely more effective than passive techniques (like writing and rereading notes). Active learning feels harder, but takes up less time. I’ve incorporated it into my learning since starting medical school 3 years ago.
I’m comfortable working across the ability spectrum. I have worked with students soaring for those top marks. I have worked with others where things have gone wrong, and they’ve needed intensive tutoring in a small space of time (with success).
