About Randall
My teaching experience began as a freshman while attending the University of Oklahoma. Like most college students, I faced academic challenges, social and cultural differences, and self-doubt. I overcame my shortcomings by seeking additional help from college professors and free tutoring services. I chose to work for various free tutoring services on campus so that I could support students facing similar situations. My undergraduate experience taught me not only how to persevere and advance my own education, but I learned how to help advance the education of others. I believe this will be a valuable asset to the community.

As a teaching assistant for Biology, I taught students in a variety of settings ranging from one-on-one interactions to presenting lectures to as many as 400 students. My teaching experiences allowed me to gain a diverse set of skills to help students from different educational backgrounds. My most skilled teaching method is Socratic questioning. With a few questions, I can guide a student down the path of a complex biological pathway, while allowing them to remain in control of their learning. Since the student is engaged and a part of a discussion, I am able to foster active learning and a growth mindset, which are essential to my Philosophy of Education; that is, allowing the students to remain in control of their learning. This Philosophy of Education combined with my teaching skills allowed me to earn the 2013 Teaching Assistant of the Year award and 2014 Tutor of the Year award. I desire to contribute my knowledge and skills I gained to mentor and teach the next generation of students.
