About Jamie
I am a medical student at the University of Edinburgh going into my fifth year in August 2022. In my third year I undertook an intercalated degree in 'Bioethics, Law and Social Science' in which I achieved First Class honours and won a prize as the top student on the course. I also have an interest in academic research, having published papers in journals such as the 'Journal of Cardiothoracic and Vascular Anaesthesia' and 'Humanities and Social Science Communications'.
I'm incredibly interested in the fields of Biology, Chemistry, Maths and Physics which I have been lucky enough to pursue throughout both my studies and my research.
I went to school in Scotland and have experience of the SQA exam system, having achieved 8As at National 5, 5As at Higher and 3As at Advanced Higher level.

I like to cater my lesson plans to the specific needs of my students, which I ascertain during an initial introductory session. I'm a strong believer in active learning and tend to place an emphasis on teaching through practice problems and past paper questions, allowing student's to test their own understanding and providing assistance when necessary. I try to make my lessons engaging and accessible, as I believe students tend to learn best when they're interested in and engaged with the subject material.
I'm happy to teach Biology, Chemistry, Maths or Physics. Further, I have extensive experience of the Medical school application process having personally scored in the top decile of the UKCAT and successfully obtained offers from four top UK medical schools, as well as having successfully coached other students through their applications. I would be happy to share this knowledge and experience with any prospective medical applicants.
I have two years previous tutoring experience, having taught Biology, Speech and Debate and coached students through the Medical school applications process. I'm happy to teach students up to a Higher level in Scotland, or up to A level in England.
