About Xylia
Hi! I’m Xylia, a first-year medical student at Cardiff University. I have over 100 hours of tutoring experience, both privately and through a school programme where, as an A-Level student, I supported GCSE pupils. Outside academics, I enjoy reading, travelling, and fencing. I studied Biology, Chemistry, Maths and Economics at A-Level, achieving 4 As, and I’d love to pass on the revision techniques that helped me succeed. The most rewarding part of tutoring for me is seeing students steadily improve and grow in confidence.

My tutoring style starts with a 5–10 minute recap of the previous session, where I ask questions to engage the student and check their understanding. This helps me shape the lesson to their needs.
The main part of the lesson is a 45–55 minute interactive learning segment. Here I teach new content or go over topics the student finds challenging. My aim is to ensure they fully understand the material while also enjoying the session. I believe interest is key to success—when a student is genuinely engaged, they learn far more effectively. Questions are always encouraged throughout.
To finish, I do a short 5-minute debrief where the student explains the topic back to me. This helps consolidate learning and highlights anything we should revisit next time.
I keep my teaching style flexible because every student learns differently. I like using interactive whiteboards, flashcards, mind maps and small learning games to make sessions varied, engaging and effective.
