About Xinchen
I am a McGill University Education student offering English tutoring for beginner and intermediate learners. My goal is to help students feel more confident, comfortable, and capable when using English in real-life and academic situations.
I can support students with English conversation, grammar, reading comprehension, essay writing, study skills, and academic writing. As a bilingual English and Mandarin Chinese speaker, I am especially able to help Chinese-speaking learners understand English more clearly by explaining grammar, vocabulary, and sentence structure in a way that feels simple and practical.
My lessons are patient, structured, and adapted to each student’s needs. I believe that learning English should not feel intimidating. A good tutor should explain clearly, encourage practice, and help students improve step by step. Whether a student wants to speak more naturally, write better essays, understand schoolwork, or build stronger grammar foundations, I aim to create a supportive learning environment where they can improve with confidence.
I am serious about preparing lessons, listening to students’ goals, and giving clear feedback. My tutoring style is friendly but focused: I want students to feel comfortable, but I also want every lesson to have a clear purpose and useful progress.

My approach as a tutor is friendly, structured, and student-centered. I believe that students learn best when explanations are clear, practical, and adapted to their level. Since I am bilingual in English and Mandarin Chinese, I can explain English concepts in both languages when helpful, especially for Chinese-speaking learners who may need extra support understanding grammar, vocabulary, or sentence structure.
My teaching methodology focuses on building confidence through practice. I use conversation exercises, grammar explanations, reading activities, vocabulary building, writing correction, and guided essay planning. I also like to connect lessons to the student’s real goals, such as improving daily conversation, preparing for school assignments, writing better essays, or becoming more comfortable speaking English.
A typical lesson begins with a short check-in about the student’s goals or difficulties. Then we review a specific topic, such as grammar, pronunciation, reading comprehension, or writing structure. After that, we practice through examples, speaking exercises, reading tasks, or writing activities. At the end of the lesson, I give feedback and suggest what the student should focus on next.
What sets me apart as a tutor is my ability to explain English clearly from the perspective of a multilingual learner. I understand that learning English is not only about memorizing rules, but also about gaining confidence, developing good habits, and learning how to express ideas naturally. My lessons are patient, supportive, and practical.
My lessons are best suited for beginner and intermediate English learners, especially students who want help with conversation, grammar, reading comprehension, essay writing, study skills, or academic English. I can also support Chinese-speaking students who prefer bilingual explanations while improving their English.
