About Maya
Hi, I'm Maya! I am a full-time student and athlete about to complete my degree in Sociology at Durham University. I studied Geography, Sociology and Business at A-Level, where I have a comprehensive understanding and experience. Whether it's delving into the intricacies of landscapes, exploring the dynamics of business, or discussing the complexities of society, I have the knowledge to help you in every way. I also achieved an A* in my Extended Project Qualification (which I loved doing!) in my lower sixth. I completely understand the challenges of balancing academics and social life. As a full-time athlete alongside my studies, I can relate to the daunting feeling of tackling work. I bring patience and understanding to this and would love to aid you in finding the right balance for you. I'll work with you at your pace, ensuring that you grasp concepts thoroughly and confidently, I know what it can feel like being overwhelmed and totally understand that sometimes an alternative explanation or approach is needed in order to grasp a concept. As your tutor, my motivation stems from witnessing the growth and success of my students. I am here to motivate and guide you towards your academic goals, offering a unique combination of academic expertise and real-world experience. I aim to keep my lessons engaging and memorable, adapting to the student and their preferred learning methods.

In structuring, preparing for, and delivering my lessons, I prioritise your engagement, comprehension, and progress. I begin by planning each lesson to ensure it aligns with the curriculum and the specific needs of you as a student. My lessons are structured to incorporate a variety of teaching methods, including discussions, activities, and creating revision resources, to cater to different learning styles and keep students actively involved. To help students achieve their goals, I focus on creating a supportive and encouraging learning environment. I actively listen to students' concerns and questions, providing clear explanations and personalised guidance to address their individual needs. I am also more than happy to provide additional resources, such as study guides, practice exercises, and supplementary readings, to reinforce learning outside of class if this is something you would like. To measure progress, I regularly check in with students through discussions, feedback and mini quizzes to gauge their confidence, comprehension, and areas for improvement.
