About Sidney
I’m a 4th year maths PhD student (University of Edinburgh) from Canberra, Australia. I chose this path because I was inspired by my year 12 maths teacher. His classes were fantastic: he offered intuition and clarity in a personable manner, with the occasional anecdote or interesting reference. It showed me that you can set people up to cruise through exams in an entertaining and engaging way.

With 4 years' experience tutoring both undergraduate and master's level students, I've learnt to break down complex topics into understandable chunks. My recent role lecturing a cohort of 2000 first-year students allowed me to adapt and cater to diverse learning styles. My main aim is to provide students with intuition. Formulae then become self-evident, and much easier to remember and use. I did maths and philosophy in undergrad: I don’t believe that there are “arts” people, and “science” people. Instead, I think that maths (problem-solving) is fundamental to us as humans—and almost always, someone who “hates” maths just never had a good teacher. I’m doing my small part to change that!

I've known Sidney since the beginning of 2021, where I had him as my tutor for a master's course in applied and computational mathematics. Sidney was (and still is) enthusiastic, patient, and very well-versed in various topics in applied mathematics and physical sciences.
