About Mercedes
Teaching started because I wanted to simplify the complex logic I encountered during my 11 years as a software engineer. Truthfully, I struggled with jargon early on, so I prioritize clear, practical explanations. My BS degree from MIT provides the foundation, but my daily work at Bay Area startups keeps my skills in APIs, backend systems, and data structures sharp.
I enjoy helping people transition from novice status to confident data professionals. JavaScript, HTML, CSS, and Java are part of my technical toolkit alongside Python. These 10 years of professional practice allow me to teach everything from competitive programming to object-oriented architecture. Seeing a student finally grasp a difficult concept after weeks of effort remains the most satisfying part of this work.
