About Joel
I hold a Master’s degree in Vocal Performance and have taught singing for over 6 years to students ranging from young beginners to adult professionals. My teaching approach is rooted in classical training but shaped by years of experience working with diverse genres and vocal goals. I truly enjoy helping each student unlock their unique sound. Beyond teaching, I’ve performed as a soloist and ensemble vocalist in various settings, including recitals, musical theatre productions, and choir tours. These experiences give me insight into real-world performance challenges and opportunities, which I incorporate into lessons to make them practical and inspiring. I believe singing is both an art and a personal journey. My goal is to help every student feel empowered, expressive, and in tune with their own musical identity. Each lesson begins by developing the technical foundation every vocalist needs—focusing on breath support, posture, pitch accuracy, and vocal warm-ups tailored to your range. Whether you’re just starting or returning to singing after a break, you’ll learn healthy vocal habits that support long-term growth and confidence in performance. As students grow, lessons shift towards exploring dynamics, phrasing, tone colour, and musical expression. We dive into different singing styles based on your interests, from classical and contemporary to jazz and musical theatre. You'll also begin to build a personal repertoire, supported by ear training and basic sight-reading techniques. Advanced sessions are built around performance readiness, emotion-driven interpretation, and vocal stamina. Lessons include techniques for stage presence, audition preparation, and mic technique if needed. You’ll learn how to connect deeply with your songs while keeping technical control, preparing you for both studio and stage.
