About James
James Freyne is an experienced design educator and real estate professional with a strong foundation in engineering, construction, and design. He holds a degree in Materials Engineering from the University of Limerick and a master’s in Real Estate Valuation from Heriot-Watt University, accredited by the RICS. Having lived and worked in Dubai for over 15 years, James brings an international perspective that connects design thinking with practical, real-world insight. His teaching approach emphasizes purposeful, functional, and aesthetic design, encouraging students to think critically, design with intention, and understand the connection between creativity, practicality, and value. James fosters a professional and engaging learning environment where students develop confidence through hands-on projects and problem-solving. I deliver project based lessons that equip students with practical 3D modelling and design skills, focusing on measurable outcomes. Each session is hands on and interactive, guiding students to produce realistic models while developing problem solving ability, spatial reasoning, and technical precision. Lessons are designed to translate directly into academic success and real world applications.
Sessions are one hour long and structured to supplement Junior Certificate and Leaving Certificate design based courses, covering planning, sketching, digital modelling, and presentation. Projects incorporate realistic constraints such as size, materials and budget so students learn to think critically, plan effectively, and execute solutions professionally.
With experience in design, construction, and engineering, I provide guidance that is targeted, relevant, and outcome driven, including support for coursework, assignments, or assessments.
This course is aimed at students aged 13 to 17 who want to develop practical design expertise, analytical thinking, and confidence to tackle complex engineering, construction, and 3D design challenges.
