About Alexis
I am a recent Master's graduate in Social Policy from the University of Oxford, and hold a First Class Bachelor's Degree in English Literature and Sociology from the National University of Singapore where I was also a Merit Scholar. My first point of entry into learning to enjoy academic learning was a genuine love for reading texts of all kinds, including fiction and non-fiction, and from novels to magazines. I know that the process of grasping complex and seemingly far-removed concepts is daunting, and believe that all effective learning must stem from a genuine curiosity and interest in the subject. As such, I hope to inspire an enjoyment and passion for learning in my students. I have 6 years of experience delivering one-to-one tutoring to students of various levels in subjects in the humanities and social sciences. My approach to teaching is highly adaptable to individual students' needs, and I strongly believe that all questions are good questions. I can cater the timing, length and style of my lessons to meet the needs of any individual, and all lessons include extensive preparation with a focus on specific areas of student interest or need.

I have always been passionate about inspiring a love for reading and learning in others. I am trained in various disciplines in the humanities and social sciences, including English Literature, Politics, Sociology and History, and can thus work around most related areas of study. I believe that cultivating genuine interest, passion and enjoyment in the area of study is the most effective way of teaching. As such, I aim to formulate lessons in a unique way that best accommodates each student's unique interests and ways of learning. I am also passionate about developing friendly and personal relationships with each student, so they not only enjoy lessons but feel comfortable asking questions. While my lessons focus on grasping the fundamentals of each discipline (for instance, understanding key concepts, ways of comprehending complex information and skills in essay-writing), I am flexible in working with students on their specific interests and needs. The typical length of a lesson is 1.5 hours, but I am happy to accommodate longer or shorter times depending on individual needs and preferences.
