2024
Tutored various levels from 11+ through to A-level Maths.
13+ students accepted to Harrow and Westminster.

2023
GCSE Maths and IGCSE maths students received the top grades levels 8/9. A-level student having received two years tuition achieved grade A* (Edexcel exam board)

2022
11+ student preparing for the consortium schools, grammar schools and independent schools found mathematics problem solving particularly difficult. With a methodical approach the student was able to dissect the multi step problems and solve many of the most complex problems at the end of the papers. The student was offered places at Francis Holland, Channing, Highgate, St. Paul's and Haberdasher's.

2021
A-level student was predicted a grade B and undertook my coaching in the final months of the exam. After 4-5 lessons the student was attaining higher grades on the test papers and we were able to push through to the top grade A*.

GCSE student particularly low with motivation post lockdown required assistance in preparing for school mocks. The pupil made rapid progress after 5-6 lessons and subsequently discovered a love of maths and opted for continued study to A-level.

13+
Student having passed the 13+ pre-test in Y6 was reserve listed for the St. Paul's paper in Y8. The boy made rapid progress throughout Y7-Y8 and confidently passed the paper and is now studying at his first choice school, St. Paul's Boys'.

2019
11+ Student with average ability received offers from NLCS, City, and South Hampstead High School in the London Consortium. The parents have accepted City of London Girls School. At the start of the tutoring process one year before City Girls and NLCS were clearly stretch targets. With a carefully crafted plan following diagnostic tests we were able to help the child make rapid progression in mathematics to problem solving level. Parents and child are thrilled with the outcome.

13+ Boy requested to sit Eton King's Scholarship following careful preparation in mathematics problem solving, applications of algebra, arithmetic and geometry.

2018
11+ girl (not a natural mathematician) sat the London Consortium Exams. Following an 8 month programme of weekly tuition in mathematics the child's confidence and enjoyment of maths rose dramatically. She was awarded a scholarship at Queenswood and received offers at the London Consortium Exams including Channing.

2017
11+ teaching a student whose confidence in maths in year 5 was severely fractured. Through careful planning to re-consilidate the KS2 curriculum and building confidence to tackle the toughest problems on the 11+ this student went from mediocre to beyond excellence. It was a pleasure to hear back from the parents that this student had gained offers from all schools applied including: NLCS, Habs, SHHS, Channing, Queenswood and Queens College.

13+ Westminster
Preparing a boy who often made typical student errors and was waitlisted for a number of schools. Using my bespoke programme of problems and exam techniques this boys maths improved to the point of gaining a conditional offer from Westminster for 13+ Entry.

11+ Girl Daisy was preparing for Top London Girls Schools. Suffering from maths anxiety we helped her to confront her fears to tackle the harder problems toward the end of the maths papers. The girl was very pleased to receive offers from a number of Top Schools including City, SHHS and Channing.

2016
13+ Common Entrance Year 8 boy prepared for the CE in the final 3 months to the exam after the boy had lost confidence. Working with the student on a weekly basis we were able to raise the boy's game and he successfully passed the CE exams. QUOTE FROM PARENT: "not only got into St Paul's, he sailed in with an amazing A- for Maths!!
Thanks so much for all your support in getting him there. I'm hoping St Pauls will take things from here, but should he need help at GCSE you will be the first person I call."

2015
13+ UCS and Highgate Prep for a boy at a middle ranking prep. For 3 months I worked intensively with this boy who had not previously been pushed to the higher thinking level of what is expected for these highly competitive schools. The boy was successful at 13+ Highgate (only 6 places available this year).

Helen scored top marks in the 11+ St. Michael's Grammar schools tests for both English and Maths. I continue to prepare our daughter for the independent schools before they make a final decision

Matthew started to prepare for 11+ in year 5 and following my advice we also prepared him for Eton 13+. (The parents found my advice particularly useful as they were unfamiliar with the independent schools). Eton have offered a conditional place. He decided to sit for Habs and Highgate anyway. Matthew was also offered places at Highgate and Habs (Scholarship), and he will be going to Eton in 2016.

James was offered places at Eton, UCS, Harrow and Highgate. Highgate was an outstanding achievement given that there were only 8 places offered from over 200 applicants.

Andrew achieved the top maths score for Eton out of 10 other students who applied from the top North London prep. He has an offer for Eton 2016 entry. In the maths test at Eton he scored 93% (the highest in his 'top' prep school). With an offer from St Paul's and wait listed for Westminster Andrew is in a strong position to choose between Top UK schools. Andrew is now working towards the Eton King's Scholarship.

Toby was prepared for 10+ City Boys and was accepted.

Jeffrey attended a state school and the family took an 11th hour decision in October to prepare for Highgate. After a programme of intensive sessions we helped Jeffrey develop his maths skills in applying them to the exam questions. In such a short space of time Jeffrey went from scoring under 50% to over 90% and received a place at highgate for 2015 entry.

2014
Hannah required prep from City Girls with only one terms notice and having not had a tutor before. We had to work extremely hard to get Hannah up to speed for the exam. With my advice and strategy of working through a variety of maths problems Hannah reached a very high standard and flew through the exam. Hannah is now at City Girls (and enjoying year 7) in 2014.

One of my students, George is in year 7. I was teaching him since July 2011, and he has been offered 13+ places at both UCS and Highgate.

James is in year 6 attending a state school and has offers from HABS, City of London, and Highgate.

2013
Elizabeth took further maths A-level last year and successfully went to Cambridge to study Physics.

Ben failed his AS maths before seeing me for help with the retake. He re-sat all of the modules with my guidance, achieved an A, and went to his first choice university (Warwick).

2012
Philip who attended a state school scored top 20 for early entry 10+ to City of London Boys' year 6 in 2012.

Emily who was attending an international school applied for Channing, NLCS, and City. She accepted a place at City.

Alex achieved a grade A in his Financial Economics module whilst studying at Oxford in 2012.

With only 25 places available for 150 applicants to Highgate Rupert (who attended a prep) was very pleased get an offer for 2013 year 9 13+ entry.

Jim passed the Westminster Challenge and struggled with the maths before tuition started. He is attending from 2013.

Harry started having lessons with me in June 2012, and we prepared for City Boys and Highgate. He decided to opt for Highgate for its reputable maths department. He then started to prepare for maths challenge and Olympiad. Through further coaching he was able to make a significant contribution to his Maths challenge team. Find out more about Mark

  • When did you develop an interest in your chosen field and in private tutoring?

Since I remember as a child I was always fascinated my maths which led me to study Pure maths at University. Following a successful teaching career I began tutoring individual students.
  • Tell us more about the subject you teach, the topics you like to discuss with students (and possibly those you like a little less).

I very much enjoy helping students boost confidence in maths at any age from 11+ through to GCSE and A-level exam prep.
  • Did you have any role models; a teacher that inspired you?

I have many role models including leaders past and present. Jack Ma is obviously a fascinating one as he has developed a huge global business with a background in education and teaching.
  • What do you think are the qualities required to be a good tutor?

Patience, emotional intelligence, connecting with students and genuine pleasure in imparting knowledge and a thorough understanding of the curriculum that one is tutoring.
  • Provide a valuable anecdote related to your subject or your days at school.

Maths was not my number 1 strongest subject at school (that was sport) and I remember the first time solving quadratic equations did not come easy to me at first, possibly the word quadratic made me receive the topic as difficult, but with effort this was quickly overcome.
  • What were the difficulties or challenges you faced or still facing in your subject?

No difficulties per se, but certainly the undoing of a child's loss of confidence in maths can take a few lessons to get a student back on track.
  • Do you have a particular passion? Is it teaching in general or an element of the subject or something completely different?

My favourite part of maths is problem solving because there are so many original problems out there and it is away fun to find a new puzzle to solve.
  • What makes you a Superprof (besides answering this interview questions :-P)?

Besides my knowledge of teaching maths, I am also highly attuned the the expected standards for the various exams that I prepare students for. Nothing pleases me more than helping students become highly competent mathematicians before that have to sit their exams knowing that they are fully prepared.
