About Jay
I’m a marimbist and educator teaching students of all ages and levels. Beyond simply passing on technique, I focus on building setups and approaches that genuinely work for each player, guided by an understanding of how people learn and move. I’ve developed my own method—distinct from traditional approaches or popular techniques—that emphasizes clarity, precision, and functionality, helping students navigate grips, strokes, and motions in a way that feels natural and sustainable. I prioritize listening to my students, understanding their habits, and guiding them toward solutions that improve their playing without forcing them to abandon what already works for them. My teaching blends technical rigor with a holistic, fascia- and body-conscious perspective, addressing movement, efficiency, and endurance. I’m particularly focused on helping students break free from repetitive patterns that limit growth, while fostering confidence and musical expression. Whether you’re a beginner, advanced, or somewhere in between, my goal is to provide guidance that feels intuitive, effective, and tailored—so you can play more fluidly, develop lasting technique, and reach your musical goals with clarity and ease.
