I learnt my Japanese from anime at first (like most of the people :)
After I started to work in the Japanese company, I realised my Japanese speaking is not enough to speak to a REAL Japanese... As a Malaysian, we are known as bilingual or trilingual. I think the purpose of learning a new language is to able to communicate and able to deliver your message to the other. So I will more focus on the oral, speaking, listening, conversational. I would not mind so much about the grammar error as long as can understand what you are trying to say. In my class, you no need to be afraid of speaking Japanese. The more you speak, the better you become.
