About Ellona
I graduated from CUNY Hunter College magna cum laude with degrees in Biology and Sociology, and I love helping people understand complex topics! I earned straight A’s in Biochemistry, Organic Chemistry, General Chemistry, Physics, Calculus, and Statistics, and scored in the 95th percentile on the SAT Math section. I also scored 128+ across all MCAT sections, even raising my score by 8 points in one week using my own study approach.
Through my experience as a Supplemental Instruction Leader and STEM tutor, I’ve helped struggling students drastically improve their grades while also helping high-achieving students reach their full potential.
Whether you’re struggling in a class or aiming for an A, I’ll meet you where you are. I’m a very visual teacher, so expect plenty of diagrams, drawings, connections, and “let me show you another way to think about this.” I’m patient, and I genuinely love watching a student go from “I have no idea what’s going on” to “WAIT—I GET IT!” That AHA moment is what tutoring is all about for me.

My approach to tutoring is simple: if something isn’t clicking, we just haven’t found the right way to explain it yet. I also don’t believe in teaching every student the exact same way. Some students need to see the big picture first, while others learn best by jumping into practice problems and working through them step by step. I’ll personalize our sessions based on how you learn, what you’re struggling with, and what you’re trying to accomplish.
A typical lesson starts with figuring out where you’re getting stuck. From there, we’ll review the concept together, work through examples, and then have you try problems on your own so we can make sure you truly understand it. I like to ask questions along the way rather than just lecture at you because I want you to be able to reason through unfamiliar problems even when I’m not there.
Whether you’re trying to catch up, prepare for an exam, or turn a subject you dread into one you actually understand, I’ll meet you where you are and build from there. We can go over lesson notes from class, do practice problems with topics you aren’t comfortable with, create study plans for tests, or start a new topic before it’s taught in class to keep you ahead of the curve. STEM topics can be scary at times, but my goal is to show you how capable you really are!
