About Melissa
Hello!
I am a high school art teacher in Westerly, RI. I have taught Drawing and Painting, Ceramics, and Pottery.
I graduated UMass Dartmouth with a degree in Art Education. I have tutored a student in drawing and design, helping them to improve their realism and composition. I have also tutored in English (writing and reading comprehension) and I love to help my high school students learn how to write about their body of artwork.
In college, I learned how to draw, paint, design, sculpt, throw on the wheel, work with metals, and even to make simple books.

I teach high school art, and I love to maintain a calm, peaceful, safe space classroom.
When I work on my own art, I love to get comfortable somewhere where I can make a mess, listen to music or start a great conversation, and just go for it.
This is what I encourage my students to do when they are working on a project.
As an educator and a tutor, I believe that you already have the knowledge and ability, and my job is to draw it out of you through constructive critique, conversation, and demonstration.
