About Kira Phoenix
I have been working as a Tutor and Mentor since 2009. I have helped students develop projects, supported sketchbook development and worked on creating visually exciting portfolios for university and college applications. As a tutor I have always enjoyed working with students over a longer period so we can build a strong working relationship that is nurturing and confidence building. I graduated from Central St Martins 2010 and graduated from The Royal College of Art in Glass and Ceramics, with a distinction for my thesis, in 2015. I continue to work as an artist and run my own studio in Wimbledon, London.

My approach to teaching is an holistic one. This method encourages each student to engage with each lesson and helps build confidence in their own skills. The creative subjects I focus on include Fine Art, Design (Product Design, Graphic Design, and Interior Design), Photography, Textiles, Drama, Ceramics and Architecture. I also teach English Language and English Literature, which is a helpful tool for annotating in sketchbooks, essay writing and any other written work their course might require. These sessions will take place either online or at my studio - Delta House Studios, Riverside Road, London SW17 0BA.
SKILLS DEVELOPMENT
I would be able to help each student develop their own visual style through learning different drawing and painting techniques, help develop their research skills, annotation skills, presentation skills, ideas development and support when writing their final evaluations for the projects. I also aim to introduce students to an inspiring range of artists who express themselves through different visual languages. To create a cohesive project, all work will go into a sketchbook with a final outcome at the end of the project. If possible, organising outings to galleries so the student can be immersed in different styles of artwork on display, and include these visits in their sketchbooks as it counts towards external research. I would also be able to help support this student’s organisational skills through developing different strategies, timetables and making sure all items have a home that is easy to navigate.
PORTFOLIO PREPARATION
I have helped many art students who are applying for the next stage of their studies with writing their Personal Statements, creating portfolios and writing the supporting texts for their portfolios. I am happy to say that every single student has been successful in their applications and have gone on to study at Oxford, Cheltenham Ladies College, St. Paul’s Girls, Central St. Martins (UAL), Slade, London College of Communication, London College of Fashion, Oxford Brookes, Goldsmiths, CalArts USA and Parsons USA to name a few.
I am able to help students write their Personal Statement by honing their ideas, being clear as to what they hope to achieve by doing the chosen course/s and what they would be able to share with the other students. Above all, I want to make sure each student’s Personal Statement has the student’s voice running through so the staff will get a very clear idea about who this student is.
For each student’s portfolio I would help them select works that are suitable, show their creative talent and also display a range of materials the student has explored. I can also help students create new projects where needed - this can also be a useful tool as I can introduce the student to new materials, like air drying clay, and this also showcases another skill the student has attained.
I would be able to assist with any additional research that might be needed.
As most applications are time sensitive it is important that the student comes prepared and ready to work. The first session will be used to create a plan, set goals, talk through process and share any information about the application process. I have also collated a ‘Portfolio Handbook’ that will aid in the creation of the portfolio and will be shared with the student during the first session via a dedicated and secure google drive they will have access to. It is also crucial that the student allocates additional time towards working on their portfolio outside of the sessions, so we can complete project pages as quickly and efficiently as possible. This process helps to be prepared to work independently once in higher education. I graduated from Central St Martins Sculpture department in 2010 and from The Royal College of Art in 2015, with a distinction for my thesis.
**PLEASE NOTE: I only take on new students who are looking for weekly tuition with a minimum of 1 hour per session.

Kira is an incredibly insightful tutor. Her resources that she has used during session have been ones that I have come back too again and again. She’s always happy to offer advice and her energy in her teaching is always fun. It’s really enjoyable spending time and learning from and with Kira and I always look forward to it!

Her enthusiasm is infectious.
I would recommend her in a heartbeat.Kira has fantastic energy and creativity and I know her through her amazing glass art work. Being a fellow dyslexic I know how important it is to be taught by someone who really knows what it is like, the struggles involved and how to make learning fun for those that have it.
Kira is the perfect mix of compassion and drive. I know that after spending time with her anyone will be given new tools to overcome challenges and will have been met on their level. It is very easy to recommend Kira to anyone.
