About Sofie
10+ years of programming experience, 5 years of tutoring/mentoring experience.
I have a Bachelor in Informatics, a Master in Computer Science and a PhD in Machine Learning.
During these studies, I have learned to work with multiple different programming languages (Java, C, C++, PHP, Matlab, Python) and gained a deep understanding of each language, and of general programming concepts.
I gained tutoring experience during my studies while working at a tutoring agency. During my academic and professional career I have mentored Master students and PhD students in Matlab, Python and Machine Learning concepts.

My goal is to make students understand fundamental programming concepts in an intuitive way as I believe this achieves the best long-term results. One way of doing this is by looking at a lot of examples, starting from simple, conceptual ones and evolving to more complex, real-life ones.
My way of working:
- A lesson starts with going through that lessons' topic and looking at examples in close up
- Then, I guide the student and listen to his thought process while making exercises on the lessons' topic
- The student gets homework to practice and we discuss how this went in the next lesson. What were the main struggle points, what went well, etc.
- I incorporate the students' learnings from each week's exercises into future lessons. If a student struggles with a certain programming concept, we will keep monitoring this until the students feels 100% comfortable with it.
