About Derek
My mother once told me that, when I was a baby, the first two things she realized I loved were music and applesauce. My father gave me a book to learn piano when I was five years old; he believed the most important skill in music is drive and practice. In high school I was giving paid private low brass lessons to adults, and have been teaching and performing ever since - teaching adults and fellow students of all instruments while still in HS, being in active practice groups while studying Tuba Performance in college, and spending a career as one of the most trusted performers and private/group music instructors in the United States Marine Corps.
