About Alyssa
Hi! I'm Alyssa, a Licensed Master Social Worker (LMSW), Columbia University graduate, and current school social worker with extensive experience helping children and adolescents thrive both academically and personally.
I believe that every student is capable of success when they receive individualized support, encouragement, and the right learning strategies. My tutoring style is patient, engaging, and tailored to each student's unique needs. Rather than relying on one-size-fits-all instruction, I adapt my teaching approach to match each student's learning style, pace, and goals.
Sessions may include homework support, reading and writing skills, study strategies, executive functioning coaching, organization, test preparation, and skill-building activities designed to help students feel more successful in school.
As a practicing school social worker, I understand that learning is about more than grades. Many students struggle with confidence, anxiety, attention, or organization, and I strive to create a positive, supportive environment where they feel comfortable asking questions, making mistakes, and growing. My experience working with students with ADHD, autism spectrum disorder, learning disabilities, anxiety, and other diverse learning needs allows me to meet each child where they are and help them reach their full potential.
Whether your child needs ongoing academic assistance, homework help, executive functioning support, or simply someone who believes in their abilities, I would love the opportunity to help them build confidence and achieve their goals.

Every student learns differently, and I believe the most effective tutoring begins with understanding how a child thinks, learns, and gains confidence. As both a Licensed Master Social Worker (LMSW) and a current school social worker, I bring a patient, supportive, and individualized approach that goes beyond simply teaching academic content. My goal is to help students understand the material while also building the organization, study habits, and self-confidence they need to succeed independently.
At the beginning of our work together, I take time to assess each student's strengths, areas for growth, learning style, and academic goals. From there, I create personalized lessons that are engaging, interactive, and paced according to the student's needs. A typical session may include reviewing previous material, introducing or practicing new concepts, working through assignments together, and ending with strategies to reinforce learning and prepare for future coursework. I also help students develop executive functioning skills such as organization, time management, planning, and effective study techniques.
My professional background allows me to support not only academic growth but also the emotional side of learning. I understand that many students struggle with test anxiety, frustration, attention, or confidence, and I work to create a calm, encouraging environment where they feel comfortable asking questions and making mistakes. I have extensive experience working with students of varying abilities, including those with ADHD, autism spectrum disorder, anxiety, learning disabilities, and other diverse learning needs, and I adapt my teaching methods to help every student reach their potential.
I offer tutoring for elementary, middle school, and high school students in subjects such as reading, writing, English, homework support, study skills, organization, executive functioning, and general academic support. Whether a student needs help catching up, staying on track, preparing for exams, or simply building confidence in school, my goal is to make learning less stressful, more engaging, and ultimately more successful.
